Here’s a simplified look at how solar panels are created — from raw material to the finished product that powers your home.

1. Purifying Silicon

  • Solar cells start with silicon, the second most abundant element on Earth.
  • Raw quartz sand is refined and melted at extremely high temperatures to produce pure silicon ingots.
  • These ingots form the base material for most solar cells.

2. Cutting Silicon Wafers

  • The silicon ingot is sliced into ultra-thin wafers, about the thickness of a sheet of paper.
  • Each wafer serves as the foundation for a single solar cell.
  • The surface is then textured to capture more sunlight and reduce reflection.

3. Doping & Electrical Treatment

  • The wafers undergo a process called doping, where other elements like phosphorus and boron are added.
  • This creates positive (p-type) and negative (n-type) layers — allowing the flow of electricity when light hits the cell.

4. Adding Electrical Contacts

  • Thin metallic lines (usually silver) are printed on the wafer’s surface to collect and transport electric current.
  • A metal backing is also added to complete the electrical circuit.

5. Anti-Reflective Coating

  • A special anti-reflective layer is applied to each cell to improve sunlight absorption and reduce glare.
  • This gives solar cells their recognisable blue or black tint.

6. Assembling Solar Cells into a Panel

  • Dozens of individual cells are connected in series and parallel, forming a solar module.
  • The connected cells are then encapsulated between protective layers of EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate).

7. Lamination & Framing

  • The encapsulated cells are laminated under heat and pressure to seal and protect them from moisture.
  • tempered glass sheet is added on the front, and a durable backsheet at the rear.
  • Finally, an aluminium frame is fitted for strength and easy mounting.

8. Junction Box & Testing

  • junction box is attached at the back to connect the panel’s electrical output.
  • Each panel undergoes strict quality, performance, and safety testing to ensure it meets global standards.

9. Ready for Installation

  • The finished solar panels are packed, shipped, and ready to be installed on rooftops — converting sunlight into clean, renewable energy for years to come.
